Public libraries in this area are back open but are challenged to create safe summer programs in the midst of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. Of course, librarians are resilient and can quickly come up with outdoor programs that are engaging, entertaining, and educational.
It was a bit warm at 2:00 on June 28, but Mr. Robert was ready with blankets that he spread out under the shade for folks to make themselves comfortable under the trees.
Everyone welcomed the breeze and the shade as The Dare Devil Dogs crew began testing sound equipment and started the music. Folks were still filtering in until just as the show started.
The Dare Devil Dogs show featured a nice variety of dogs. One was retired and older but seemed delighted to race after low flying pink discs. All of the dogs waited in an air conditioned van until it was their turn to show their skills.
As each dog had its spot on center stage in the grass, we learned about the breed and temperament to expect. Several of the dogs were rescued or re-homed, and the audience was encouraged to check out local shelters and rescue organizations first if searching for a furry family member. And of course to spay or neuter pets.
I particularly liked how we learned about some simple techniques if anyone wished to train their own dog at home. The dogs were animated and eager to perform for the crowd, despite the warm temperatures!
